Software Solutions for Broadcasters

Rooted in the television world

Our expertise in media and broadcasting has its roots in the experience gained by our founders with market leaders, primary broadcasters and telecom operators. In the late 1990s they worked on data transmission over the television signal, used as a broadcast channel for financial news and data services.

That distinctive know-how led to the design and deployment of teletext systems for major Italian broadcasters and, more recently, to the reworking of a national teletext service to meet new editorial needs and move it to the digital terrestrial platform. Today GPA MS is a qualified supplier of software solutions for broadcasters, with platforms for the complete management of teletext and for the subtitling of television programmes.

What we deliver

  • • Teletext management platforms
  • • Pre-recorded, deferred and live subtitling
  • • Subtitle routing to multiple channels and languages
  • • DVB encoders for subtitle insertion
  • • Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • • Long-term maintenance and support

STEdit, the GPA MS subtitling platform

STEdit is based on a WYSIWYG editor with teletext fonts and formatting. Subtitlers generate the timecodes for each subtitle, while the platform automatically calculates its duration and warns when it is too short or too long for the audience to read.

STEdit integrates with StLive, also developed by GPA MS, which routes subtitles to one or more channels and in one or more languages. The subtitle streams are then fed into GPA MS DVB encoders, which insert the subtitle PIDs into the transport streams sent to the national distribution system.

Supported subtitle formats

SRT · SSA · SUB · STL · TTML

Automatic subtitling

We are developing a new platform that combines speech-to-text and machine learning to automate most of the work, reducing the time and cost of subtitled content:

  • • Multilingual capability with high accuracy
  • • Speaker identification
  • • Real-time subtitling for live events and streaming

Human subtitlers stay in the loop for complex content, heavy accents and technical jargon.
